Sun City Grand Softball
Red League Rules
2007 - 2008

1. Players are chosen from a rated list provided by the Board’s appointed Rating Committee.

2. A draft is conducted once a year in September/October unless the SCG Softball Board decides to have a re-draft for the second half     of the Fall/Winter season.

3. Only bats approved by the Sun City Grand Softball Club will be allowed.

4. The 44/375 ball will be used. Home team will supply 1 new ball per game.

5. The Red league will not use a rover.

6. The Red league will use the '1 up' home run rule. Any additional home runs will be scored as singles with on base runners advancing     one base, regardless of force.

7. The Red league will use the 1 & 1 count. The batter will start each at bat with a one ball and one strite count. One foul ball will be     allowed after two strikes.

8. Substitute runners are allowed at any base at any time, however, a substitute runner may run only once an inning but every inning if     needed. Managers will designate players who may require a runner before the start of each game.

9. Sliding is allowed.

10. Permanent players who are injured will not be replaced unless they are out for the balance of the season. All requests to replace an      injured player must be in writing to the Commissioners.

11. There will be no special considerations or rescheduling when a team cannot field 9 players. It will be a forfeit and a loss. We       recommend you play the game with any available players for recreation and exercise if desired.

12.Substitutes: Each team manager will be provided a list of all full time players in the Red League separated into Group 1 and Group 2      players. A manager may substitute for Group 1 player with another Group 1 or Group 2 player, and any Group 2 player with another      Group 2 player. An individual player can only substitute once for a team per half, unless all substitutes have been utilized once, in      which case a team can repeat the process. A second list of substitutes will be provided which are players who are not full time      players in the league. Managers may use these substitutes without the once per half limitation. These substitutes may play two      games per day and can play twice for the same team. All substitutes must bat last in the batting order. Substitutes cannot be used      unless a Team does not have 10 roster players capable of playing in the field.

13. Rescheduling of Red League Games: The SCG softball park usage is under extreme demand therefore, under no circumstances      will games be rescheduled. Any catastrophic event or rainouts will be considered by the commission for possible makeup.

14. Pitchers Box: A pitchers box back line will be 6 feet behind the pitching rubber.

15. Protective Screen: The screen will be mandatory for all pitchers and will include the following rules:

• The screen will be placed on either side of the pitching rubber, at the pitcher's discretion. After a pitch is made the screen is   not to be moved until the umpire declares the play over.
• The screen must be parallel to the pitching rubber.
• The legs of the screen must be in contact (i. e. within a few inches) with the pitching rubber.
• Batted balls that strike the screen will be deemed a dead ball, i. e. No pitch.
• Thrown balls that strike the screen are in play and play will continue until the umpire declares the play over.

16. There will be no mercy rule.

17. All players on the roster will bat as long as they show up to play and are physically capable. All players on the roster must play at      least three innings in the field if they are physically capable. If a player is unable to play in the field but chooses to bat, the Manager      should report this situation to the opposing team Manager before the start of the game.

18. A player leaving the game prior to its completion (except when injured) will be considered an automatic out the first time his slot      comes up to hit. After that, his slot will be passed without penalty.

19. In order to start a game, a team must be able to field 9 players. If at any time during the game that number falls below 9 and a valid      league substitute is not available, that team will be under the forfeit rule and will suffer an automatic loss.

20. Games are scheduled for 7 innings or 75 minutes in length. At the 60 minute mark, the scorekeeper or field umpire will be      responsible to notify the home plate umpire. The home plate umpire will then notify the managers as follows:

• If the game is between innings, the start of the new inning will be the last inning and the unlimited run rule will apply.
• If an inning has already started, the following inning will be the last inning and the unlimited run rule will apply.
• After 75 minutes are played and the game is tied, each team will be credited with half (1/2) a win.
• In the event the score is tied after 7 innings and there is still 5 minutes remaining on the clock, each team will start succeeding   innings with a runner on second base. The runner will be the last out of the prior inning. A team may not score more than 5   runs in this extra inning.

All players must follow the dress/uniform code of the Sun City Grand Softball Club.
