Sun City Awning 7 - Thunderbird Automotive 14
In a very competitive game Thunderbird Auto scored enough runs in the later innings to win over a fine Sun City Awning team by a 14 to 7 score. Perfect at the plate for the 'Birds with 3 hits each were Earl Mueller, Dave Chamberlin, and Mark Lange. Chipping in with 2 for 3 hitting were Dick Marker, Loren Major and Trudy Morone. Lou Marano and Roy Carpenter also added two hits. Making good defensive plays were Butch Rabay, Jan Huber, Roy Sours and Stu Templer.
Scoreboards 9 - Liberty Buick 10
For the winners Larry Waskosky & Al Jay went 3 for 3, with most all team members getting 2 hits in this close game. Fine defensive play by Dave Shannon, Hank Anders, Jim Steedle, Bob Cary and Al Jay made the difference in the game for Liberty. Winning Pitcher was John Lynn. Scoreboards suffered an end of the season heart breaking loss despite playing one of the best games of their season. Taking the lead after 2 innings, Liberty came back to put up 4 in the 3rd. Scoreboards tied in the top of the 5th, but Liberty came back to post 1 more to go ahead once again. A scoreless 6th left Scoreboards 1 behind going into the 7th. Some great defensive plays by Liberty shut down the offense and gave Liberty the win. Wayne Nettesheim and Kris Koch were 3 for 4, Mary Ann Newby and Norma Dokken were 2 for 4. Sub Darryl Bowman was 3 for 4 with a triple and 4 RBIs and sub Jay Schirpke was 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBIs. Judy Muller made some good defensive plays to keep Liberty off the bases.
A J Lawn Service 12 - Denny’s 10
The bats came alive, as well as the defense. Larry Smith went 4 for 4 and Jim McGrath was 3 for 4 with a triple. Howard Sumner hit a 3 run HR that keyed the team scoring in the first. The team had a total of 21 hits, to finish out the year with 3 in a row, what a come back. We never gave up on ourselves, nice team effort and another well pitched came by Wayne Siers. And from Denny’s perspective… It is the bottom of the 7th. The score is 12 to 10 in favor of today's formidable opponents who have been on a winning streak. Denny's had two men on base and the go ahead run at the plate with two outs. The crowd was holding their breath. Would the Denny's team be able to snatch another victory in the last inning? Nope, not this time. But Denny's sure gave it their best! For Denny’s Darryl Bowman was 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. Don Trenda was 1 for 4 with a triple. Al Trentini and Ray Smith were 2 for 4. Our subs: Jerry Horton 3 for 4 with a triple, Rich Flanagan 3 for 4, Dave Blunt 3 for 4 and Pierre Boudreau 3 for 3.
Party Planet 14 - Char Wheeler 8
The Partyers must have stayed up too late last night as it took them 4 complete innings to get untracked. After scoring only 1 run through 4 innings, the Party Planet eleven plated 13 runs over the course of the final 3 innings to secure the 14 to 8 win. Making their final appearances at the plate for Party Planet, all starting 11 contributed at least one hit.
Jerry Friedman and Jay Schirpke led the way each going 4 for 5. Bob Craig continued with the hot bad, banging out 2 singles and a double and assistant manager Pierre Boudreau added 3 singles in his 3 for 5 day. Subs Jim Anderson, Mark Jessen and Larry Hinkel combined for a total of 5 base hits and 3 RBIs to help secure the win. Defensively the Planet 11 had trouble early but came on strong with Bill Gentry being the middle man in a 1-5-4 double play, Bob Craig taking a perfect throw from catcher Jerry Friedman to nail a Char Wheeler trying to stretch a single into a double and Jack Mueller tracking down fly balls in right center field.
This was the 13th win for the Party Planet 11 and it locked up the division title for the boys in blue. We finished with a bang...won our division but couldn't catch Designs by Don...had a great time this Spring season and enjoyed playing with each and every one of you. A close game thru 5 innings with the Realtors ahead 7 to 5, but the Planeteers scored 9 runs during the last two innings. For the Realtors, Paul Schlender was 1 for 2 and had a walk. Jim Lamb was 4 for 4. George Williams was 3 for 4 and had 2 RBIs. Gary Johnson and Jim Parry each were 2 for4. Steve Powell was 2 for 3. Byron Brown had a triple.
Northwest Physical Therapy 11 - Dick Steiman, CPA 16
The Steiman accountants won an exciting game with 5 runs in the top of the 7TH inning to defeat Northwest Physical Therapy 16 to 11. The CPA’S belted out 25 hits and everyone got a hit. Super sub Ron Melchionda was 4 for 4 with 3 doubles. Rod Whittle was 3 for 4 with a double and Sue Cary also hit 3 for 4. Frank Rainaldi was 2 for 5, Harry Barrish 2 for 2 with 2 walks, Mac Diller 2 for 4 with a double. Larry Hinkel, Joe Weintraub, Joe Bradley, and Les Bonde were all 2 for 4, with Susie Tornes hitting 1 for 4. NWPT could only muster a miserly 11 runs in their effort. Said Manager Mark Jessen; All the baseball gods was ag’in us today! However, Joey Rizzuto was 4 for 4 and batted over .770 for the year!
Designs by Don 10 - Colonade 5
The Dons played the last game of the season with a 10 – 5 win over the Colonade Rod Whittle and Dick Kohnen led the hitting with 3 hits each. Les Schiller, Bill Kroger, Joe Jellison, and Lanny Auberg each had two hits and included a home run by Lanny. Joe Jellison and Jim Gonsalves played great defense. The Dons ended the season with a league leading 15 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. A great championship season! This game started out as a defensive match up ending at 2 runs apiece after two innings. The Designers broke out with a five run inning to take charge. The Colonaders fought back in the last inning with a three run rally to close to 10 to 5 with key hits by Jerry Hotzler and George Skillings. Failing to win this last game left the Colonaders one game short of .500 with a record of 9 wins and 11 losses. It was still a great season with a super group of people that were a pleasure to be with. Look forward to new season in the fall of 2010.
